Due to the European Union’s import sanctions against Russia, the Thermal Carbon Black supply chain has changed tremendously, as approximately 40% of Europe’s total Carbon Black was manufactured and imported from Russia. Additionally in the end of 2024 Orion Engineered Carbons terminated the production of Thermal Carbon Black N-990 and N-991 completely.
Thermal Carbon black is obtained by the decomposition of natural gas and is generated through high temperature pyrolysis in the absence of oxygen and flames, making it one of the most eco-friendly manufacturing processes and purest and cleanest form of Carbon Black commercially available.
Thermal Black is characterized by large primary particles, low surface and structural values and has superior properties in terms of processability, filling, resilience & electrical resistance.
Additionally, Thermal Black provides a high loadability, low compression set and low compound viscosity.
These unique properties have a positive influence on the permanent characteristics for several applications such wires, batteries, cables, paints, plastics, conductive compounds, refractory materials, concrete, insulation and metallurgy.
PentaCarbons’ Carbon Black portfolio includes several high-quality Thermal Carbon Blacks:
- Carbon Black N-990 in beaded version with soft pellet hardness for easy dispersion
- Carbon Black N-991 in powder version, where pellets dispersing might be of issue
- Thermal Carbon Black series in fluffy and beaded form with low hydrocarbon content
- Ultra Pure versions of Carbon Black N-990 and N-991 with extra high purity
The above grades are available in various packaging types.
Due to several warehouses throughout Europe, we can offer short lead times compared to other global players such as Cancarb/Tokai Carbon Group.
